This is a great way to get your children’s energy working for them. This style of dance requires a lot of hoping and jumping, with a focus on rhythm, turned out ‘ballet-like’ feet, and a strong posture in the upper body. Irish dance is a growing dance style dating back for centuries in Ireland, and is now performed all over the world, including Australia, China and even Mexico! This dance style is what inspired the shows Riverdance and Lord of the Dance.
Irish dance is performed to traditional Irish music. Students will learn the basics of this dance form in this class. There are two different styles under the Irish Dance umbrella: soft shoe and hard shoe. The ‘soft shoe’ form is what we will be starting with and this can be performed in a jazz shoe or a ballet slipper. The hard shoe dances are more advanced and beginners can practice in a tap shoe.
This style of dance is fun, challenging and really rewarding! We cannot wait to see you all there!
